As a lot of you know, 2 times a year, in summer and in winter, the castle of ‘s-Gravenwezel, owned by our famous Belgian antiques dealer and decorator Axel Vervoordt, is open for public.
As I am a huge admirer of the work of Axel and his wife May, I won’t miss any opportunity to visit the castle.
I thought about you, all my readers and blogfriends, and wanted to share with you some pictures I took of the castle and its gorgeous garden! The weather was so beautiful this Friday, so I was able to take a lot of good pictures to share.
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to take pictures of the inside of the castle, that we have to respect because Axel Vervoordt and his family live in it.
I hope you will enjoy the tour of this fantastic garden!
If you want to read more about Axel Vervoordt and his castle, please visit http://www.axel-vervoordt.com.
The entrance gate of the castle.
The entrance.
Another view from the balcony.
Every where around the castle you notice the beautiful rhododendrons.
A lovely terrace in front of the entrance of the castle.
Isn’t that a gorgeous orangerie?!!
May vervoordt loves to bring in flowers and plants inside the castle. In every room of the castle you notice flowers of their own garden.
A view from inside the orangerie towards the pool.
I call this a still life of stones.
There are the rhododendrons again!
Me, sitting in the outhouse (one of my favorite places in the garden) in front of the pool. A wonderful place to relax!
Only a part of the huge kitchen garden!!
What do you think about the boxwood ? Beautiful isn’t it!
Every where you walk you discover something surprising!
Throughout the garden there are places to relax…
or…
A beautiful weathered oak table.
And after spending a fantastic afternoon and enjoying the castle and the garden, we had to leave the castle!
Thankful to Axel Vervoordt and his family for sharing with us their beautiful private home, I am looking forward already to the winter exhibition!
xx

What an extraordinarily beautiful place. I do hope the white wisteria I planted a few months ago one day looks like this...even though I certainly don't live in a castle!

ReplyDeleteEen fijne week Greet! Lieve groet, Ingrid

Greet, how beautiful! Thank you for posting your magnificent pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love how the pool is in its own outdoor room defined by the hedges. I also like how there is grass on the far side, but stone on the near side.
Hi Greet - The castle gardens are spectacular and thanks for sharing so many photos. You must have wanted to stay all weekend. I know I would!
ReplyDeleteDeborah
Dearest Greet,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this wonderful trip. Awesome. I have never seen a moat around a castle. The wisteria had me. I love wisteria, what a gorgeous place.

Greet,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day you had walking the grounds of the castle!
Gorgeous, just completely gorgeous gardens. The bent wood chairs are quirky and I so need to find some like them!
Were you able to go inside? I know it's their private home but it would be really nice to walk the inside.
xx

ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI can recommend the twice yearly garden and plant festival at Aywiers in Brabant Wallon if you enjoy this sort of beautiful setting. I try and go every year: http://www.aywiers.be/fr/fr_accueil_lieu.html
What a breathtaking garden! Must be a magical place to visit. I love how the orangerie is a new build (80's) but looks like it has been there all along.
ReplyDeleteeen werkelijk prachtig huis , tuin... als je had gezegt dat jij de vrouw des huizens was had ik je ook gelooft, je ziet er super mooi uit en past helemaal in het plaatje.
ReplyDeleteGreet,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking us on the tour with you! As you know, I am a big Axel fan too. Coincidentally, I shared an image just yesterday of an arbor/outdoor dining area from the Vervoordt's estate. As the saying goes....Great minds... :) All the best, LeAnn, linen&lavender

Greet these are so lovely. I want to say that the pictures are as good as the real thing but I am afraid I'd be lying...your pictures are indeed AWESOME but I just know that to be there in person is beyond amazing! So envious! Hope you enjoyed it as much as it seems! xo
ReplyDeleteOhhh I want to be a princess and live with my prince charming in this castle! It is truly breathtaking and I wouldn't change a thing! A pity we cannot see the inside which I'm sure is as stunning as the gardens. Thanks for showing your photographs, you look lovely in the outhouse!

Just got to spend time with these photos - gorgeous! Thanks for being our tour guide!
ReplyDeleteHow amazingly beautiful, I am a huge fan of his work but have never been there. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a fairytale come to life. The garden alone is an enchanting sight. It is a good decision by the owner to open the castle to the public twice a year. It may be a bit time consuming and difficult to maintain a garden this grandiose, but the effort truly paid off. What I am missing is a variety of colors. I would love to see flowers too. Nevertheless, this is still one of the best I’ve seen in a long time!
ReplyDeleteI only see castles with spectacular surroundings on books and television shows. That’s why I agree with Jaime. This is indeed something out of a fairytale book! I think this is perhaps the most beautiful garden in their community. Don’t you think so? Going there and spending for traveling expenses will surely be worth it. =)
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt Mr. Axel Vervoordt was able to design and create an elegant and flawless garden. It shows in his enormous castle and his huge garden that he is indeed an exceptional artist and interior designer. Brilliant! Oh, I wish I could have a house with a green and tranquil environment.
ReplyDeleteElizaveta Kramer
The idea of a castle itself is already stunning; what more if it has an awesome garden? I’ve always had a fascination with castles, and right now, I feel so envious. Anyway, were there any living sculptures there? I hope I can visit that castle too.
ReplyDelete-Katy Eagles
I just came across your great photos. Do you where I can find out when the castle is open to the public (i.e. when those two times a year are).
ReplyDeleteI am very enjoyed for this blog. I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic.
ReplyDeleteIf possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
