Today I am back with an update of our living room redo.
Many of you emailed me to ask about the treatment of the floor and how to achieve that finish. I really hope that you all will understand that this is a delicate matter, since this is a trade secret of our craftsmen. Over the years our employees invested so much time and worked so hard on the perfection of wood treatments. It shouldn’t be fair of me to send this, just like that, into the world.
I do hope you will understand!
In my latest update post (HERE), I told you that the montage of the paneling was almost finished and that our employees only had to add the skirting boards, chair rails and corniches.
So this was all done last week.
Davy was adding all skirting boards.
Ines was adding the chair rails…
…and was adding corniches, even with closed eyes! Haha!!
This is how the room looks like today.
The trumeau is awaiting antique mirrored glass. I still haven’t found the perfect antique glass!
The double door towards the dining room will be given the patina of the paneling.
Jan and me are very pleased with the integrated secret doors.
Secret door towards the library.
Secret door towards the entry hall.
Standing in the entry hall, you won’t notice any change at the existing double door.Opening the door from the entry hall into the living room.
Secret door in the living room.
Next week the artist-painter will start to bring on the patina! I am sure this will change the room completely!
Meanwhile, I am trying to find the perfect combination of window treatment fabrics and the different possibilities of the wood patinas.
To be continued…
xx

ReplyDeleteLieve groet, Ingrid
My university residence (an old mansion in Toronto)had secret doors through out. I love them! Your room is stunning. I wish I lived in Belgium:)
ReplyDeleteChère Greet,
ReplyDeleteTout à l'air parfait, quel travail !
Bonne semaine !
Céline.
Merci pour votre commentaire Céline!
DeleteEncore beaucoup de choses à faire maintenant!!

Absolutely beautiful! I look forward to seeing the patina. What about the doors and fireplace are they changing patina too? Thank you for the update.
ReplyDeleteThis is true craftsmanship, and even if you did share with readers the technique {which respectfully I'm glad you did not} - it could never be duplicated. In the world of 'do it yourself' enthusiasm, there are some things that cannot be achieved unless you have years of training.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe every time I see the work you do .... and I wish I had a home with secret doors too!
Greet it looks beyond perfection and even before patina is applied! True craftsmanship and the love is showing. Secret doors are incredible and make the room less marked with doors as only the double doors will be noticeable (: Very clever! I have a similar dream for our office to be paneled like this with secret doors to the small room beside the office / living room which we use for the actual computer room and I want it fully hidden((; it will never be as stunning as your people can do but yo make me dream and watching your progress is wonderful! What a room! Beauty. Hugs z
ReplyDeleteAlso you say the patina will be applied on the double doors and I get it(: but love the current Colour of doors too as they work with the fireplace and stand out... Xo z
ReplyDeleteZane,
DeleteThank you so much for your nice comments!! Well, maybe on the pictures you might think that the stain of the double door looks as the color of the fireplace, but it isn't. The door is made of oak and the antique fireplace is of French walnut. So we decided to paint the double door as the paneling!
I am sure it will looks great!
Hugs!
Greet
That Makes sense and the fireplace is stunning and thank you for explaining it to me as I always am curious to understand how you think and make such decisions...never doubting the result being excellent!! Xo z
DeleteHello Greet,
ReplyDeleteIt is already a long time that you heard anything of me but I have always followed your living room redeo and it is fantastic to see all the successive stages made in the perfection. It is also very surprising that there are still such professionals people in Belgium!

mmmmmmmm it really is shaping up into a masterpiece, isn't it? i love seeing the pieces being fit and pondered over to truly appreciate the end result. so much thought, effort, and experience coming together artfully. thanks for sharing the behind the scenes, greet. and i think choosing the patina would be a painstakingly arduous process but also very rewarding in the end! sending you good energy to discern and choose wisely.

Hello Greet,
ReplyDeletejust like everyone else I think it's going to be an exceptional room. I also very much like the fabrics you are considering, they are very fresh and delicate. About the distressed mirror - I know you said you are looking for a Belgian source, but if that fails maybe you coud try this: http://www.saligodesign.com/
Good luck
