A lot of us have an old furniture piece somewhere that we either don’t like anymore or that doesn’t match with the rest of our décor.
A client of mine had an antique French small Louis XV bergère that didn’t fit their new, more contemporary, home interior, and asked me what to do with it.
The floral damask fabric was totally damaged, so we needed to reupholster the bergère. At this moment we are finishing the interior design of the house and for all of the fabrics we prefered to choose for tones of blues and greys.

The framework of the bergère is painted in white/gray with a shade of blue.
Because I knew that my client had her doubts about choosing to reupholster the bergère with either a classic or a more contemporary fabric, I suggested to use 2 different fabrics.
A floral patterned fabric for the frontside and the seat cushion and a checkered fabric for the backside of the bergère.
In the composition of both fabrics, 30% to 50% linen is used.

I have always loved the small French bergères, they have a feminine look and they fit in several rooms.
I show you a few examples of small bergères placed in different rooms of the house.

There are many different ways to embellish a French bergère.
You can choose for a more feminine and romantic fabric as the one here of the KATE FORMAN collection.Kate Forman Source here

Suvh a lovely chair and an excellent choice!
ReplyDeleteOh, Greet, this is exactly what I needed today! We have a beautiful old cabriolet bergere which has been in my bathroom for years, it still has the original upholstery which begs for recovering. Your post is just what I need to finally get permission to re-do the chair. I love what you did, the chair looks even better than original. Sending love from Texas, darling one....
ReplyDeleteThe 2 fabrics together give the chair such interest.
ReplyDeleteI love a single bergere in the bedroom.
I love bergères and have several. I like to upholster them in either solid coloured cotton or a beautiful floral chintz.
ReplyDeleteOh Greet !
ReplyDeleteQue c'est difficile en effet de choisir un tissus...
J'aime bien la photo du bas : le velours violet !
Hello my friend, Yes, I really like the French bergères chairs. I have two that are repros, I guess, but they have the lovely lines of those chairs and they are very feminine. I made a chenille slipcover for one and the other one is still unfinished. If I ever get a sewing room I would like to put it in there, with a nice linen upholstery. I have the fabric, I just don't have a place for it.
ReplyDeleteYour idea to reupholster the chair in the two linen fabrics was truly brilliant and made for a very beautiful finished product.
Have a wonderful weekend, dear lady.
Hugs, Cindy
i would love a bergere or three here--they would be right at home.

Awesome. I spent many months researching different companies that sell a french style upholstered bed. I finally made the decision to go ahead and buy the Chelsea upholstered bed. Extremely pleased with my decision. Below is a link to the product page. Good-luck with your upholstered bed shopping.
