Belgian craftsmanship - Handcarving craft for a staircase post

 

I am so pleased to show you a beautiful carved staircase post at a client’s home!

A lot of you do know that our company Lefèvre Interiors is known for hand-made craftsmanship.

We are working on the redo of a staircase of one of our clients.

Our client wanted to replace the staircase column by a carved post and asked us for help.

That is the new wooden carved post.

We need to complete painting the steps and stairway, but I couldn’t resist to share with you this part of the redo so far.

I just love the style of the staircase post which fits well with the style of the antique French console table at the entrance hall.

The beautiful antique console table was found at Garnier Antiques.

    Heel kunstig gedaan! Wat een binnenkomst in deze hal met zicht op deze mooie trap. Hopelijk plaats je ook foto's als de trap volledig af is.

    Oui, le pilier d'escalier est maintenant beaucoup plus chic, plus amusant et moins triste ! Tout l'escalier va être peint, j'imagine. C'est un grand changement pour cette entrée ! Bravo !

    What a surprising difference this makes. Such a clever touch to make the stair post flare-out almost like a flamboyant invitation to climb the stairs.

    I was not expecting it to be such a different style as what was there before...Love the new one as it's lines are classic in design and not victorian...and yes, it compliments the console table and floors beautifully...

    You are blessed to have such artisans working in your shop! Will it be fauxed to match the existing rail and spindles (which are pretty cool unto themsleves)or is the handrail going to be white?

    Thats a pity !, the staircase newel, baluster is too big and too thick for this stair. It was better to leave the original.Than the house has its correct character. But still very nicely carved.

    isn't working with wood wonderful, love the first picture! Showed it to geert immediatly ... he followed woodcarving (ages ago) in Mechelen ... My grandfather has some beautifull carved pieces from a fellow craftsmen. Back then he worked in a furniture company, and all of the men had their speciality ... it's a born talent, a gift you develop troughout the years. lovely staircase Greet!
