Italian beauties

 

One of my preferred pieces of furniture is an Italian cassapanca.

I love the decorative painted ones!

Most of the benches are large sized and the seat is used as a chest, a storage seat.

They are highly decorated and were generally placed by pair in a hall.

    Really divine! They must be quite rare. I've not seen an antique cassapanca for sale before. Perhaps I'll have luck at Maastricht or Olympia.....even if just to admire only. One can dream ~ xo, Loi

    Ils sont superbes ces bancs ! Je n'en avait jamais vu sauf peut-être une fois à Venise.
    Vous pourriez en refaire et les faire peindre en trompe-l'œil !
    Mais les anciens doivent êtres encore plus rares et précieux !

  5. I was not familiar with these benches, Greet. Thank you!! Fascinating how much they very in their decor and style - from the rugged unfinished one to the spectacular painted ones. You have given me an idea for a foyer we are working on. I wonder if I can convince them to let me design one for them. I know the perfect decorative painter to complete it.

  11. I have never had anyone in the US mention a cassapanca! My parents have one that came with their apt in Venice. It is quite small compared to what you normally see and is painted similarly to the one you have featured here by Garnier Antiques. The paint is rather faded. It is in the tight entry. We keep our umbrellas in the storage seat!

    I don't believe I've ever seen an Italian cassapanca in person, only in magazines and books. The Lars Bolander example is stunning, but I even love the simple, unpainted bench from David Michael Miller Associates. What an interesting and informative post, thank you.

  21. They are true beauties! I wish I owned one but sadly don't... And if you think they are not affordable((: then I surely won't have one any time soon. ... I don't even know where to get one.. The antiques you featured in ur previous post are gorgeous but have not heard from them back so I assume even they don't ship to canada(:
