One of the most popular items to hang above the mantel are mirrors. But today I won’t show you mantels with mirrors, I wanted to show you some other great ideas to fix up your mantel.
A fireplace creates an instant focal point in a room and that is why it is important to choose the right decorative items.
A modern painting as here!
Notice the colours of the painting that match the stained wooden cabinets, the leather chairs and coffee table. I love the look of this living room!

Add personality and style by adding a few more pieces as Michael S Smith has done here. And instead of hanging a mirror above the mantel, he places the mirror next to the chimney.

Nicky Haslam added an escutcheon. Very original!

I just love the way Vicky Archer has decorated her mantel! All these candlelights give her living room an enchanting atmosphere.

Or the way Bobby McAlpine did. Placing a map.
Or a group of ethnic items.

Beautiful!!!

Uncluttered!
And this simple but gorgeous mantel doesn’t ask for a lot of decoration.
What do you think about all these different ways to fix up your mantel?

De schouw met kaarsen vind ik erg mooi, maar ook de strakke witte versie spreekt mij aan.
ReplyDeleteEen fijne zondag, geniet van het zomerse weer!

Hi Greet,
ReplyDeleteI've looked around and everyone of our fireplaces has a mirror over it!!!
Thank you for showing me a new way of doing things!
Definite food for thought for future projects.

ReplyDeleteI love rearranging my fireplace mantle seasonally and there is a lot of inspiration here. (The first unknown photo is designer Nancy Braithwaite.)
ReplyDeleteAll best,

A very timely post for me since I just cleared everything off my mantle the other day and was wondering what I could do with it. Love the VT Interiors mantle.

Love the neutral tones in all of these photos. Great compilation of ideas. Thank you, Greet.
ReplyDeleteBest, Shannon
I love all the ideas! Especially the sculptures and candlelight!
ReplyDeleteI also like when a piece of art hides a television. So tired of seeing TV's above fireplaces.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the last one is my very favorite. The simple, raw wood and the stone on the left. Perfection!!

Wonderful ideas... The neutrals, the zebra geometric patterns, the perfect piece of art. I have a mirror over my fireplace :) perhaps its time to change things up?
ReplyDeleteSo very beautiful. But Vicki's is my personal favorite! And I am not just saying that because it is her. :) But I do thank you for giving me new ideas. With autumn coming, I think it is time to move things around a bit!!!
ReplyDeleteGros bisous,
Heather
Inspiring ideas, Greet. My favourite is Vicki's mantel. A beauty!
ReplyDeleteWonderful ideas! I especially love the map. Something about maps calls to me every time. Best to you.
ReplyDeleteGreet a wonderful post! As you can imagine I love to see art, or objects of art above the fireplace mantle. It is such a wonderful focal point and completes the room!

Love the choices you've selected! Especially the collection of ethnic items by Michael Smith....so organic and unexpected. The mantel is beautiful and very unusual. Hope you are doing well, Greet!

Hi Greet,
ReplyDeleteReally prefer the mantels you have shown rather than ones with mirrors or TVs above them. The mantels with modern art above them spoke to me. I love antiques and modern art mixed. Modern art cools antiques, and antiques give character to modern rooms. Then again, this preference could just be another indication of my conflicted design aethetic :)

Hi Greet,
ReplyDeleteI haven't been over here for quite some time, I've been busy with my youngest step-daughter, she is here for just two weeks, so I don't want to miss time with her.
But, I'm so glad I am here today. I love the different ways that mantels are decorated. My favourite one of all is the loft apartment with the humongous map over the fireplace. That is a fabulous apartment, I LOVE all of it.
Have a wonderful week and I'll be back sooner rather than later.
Love and hugs, Cindy
