Small windows

Don’t you think that small windows have something mysterious, while creating an intimate ambience from inside a home?

I just love these beautiful architectural details, don’t you?

  5. Bonjour Greet !
Les "œil de bœuf " comme on dit en français sont très amusants et font des petits coins intimes et insolites...
    Bon week-end !

  8. You got me thinking Greet - always dangerous... There is something oriental about small windows - how they offer only glimpses of what we know is a larger view. Our imagination then fills in the blanks. Stir in a thick wall and some back lighting, it becomes enchanting.

    Wonderful Post! Thank you.

    Cheers,
    John

  13. All gorgeous! I really like the windows that are set deep into the wall. When we built this home we had three small square windows on one wall in the game room upstairs. The roof line dictated that they had to be small and high. We made the most of it and made the wall thicker so we could set them in a foot. It added so much architecture to the room. Love this post as always, Greet. Have a great weekend. Mona

Lieve groet, Ingrid

  24. It's all about the details. What a lovely collection of windows, great inspiration.

Did you see my piece about Austrian windows a while back? http://www.adeenidesigngroup.com/blog/2011/04/11/windows-austria-soul/ I am sure you have seen many similar ones in Belgium.

    Cheers,

  25. Hello Mrs Lefevre!

Yes! Small windows are wonderful - both from an aesthetic and alluring point of view. They play and tease the imagination for sure.
I remember when I lived in Scotland as a young architect's student. I used to spend my weekends visiting local castles and estates. Glamis castle was one place where my private tour guide pointed out a small window that was set in a hidden chamber in the actual castle. The room wasn't even noted on the original drawings of the building and is said to be the 'secret gaming room'. The legend goes.. (love the Scots!) that the room was once sealed 'mid-game' and the players were trapped and left to die. Apparently one can see a flickering light from the window on certain nights..

Happy new week to you my friend and hope you are enjoying a wonderful Autumn down there!
It seems you still have quite warm weather because we are still enjoying 'Belgian strawberries' here in Sweden! :)

    Warm hugs from the North
    xx Charlotta

  31. Hallo Greet,

    Mooie post weer.
    Hartelijke groet,
    Petra

  34. Each window has a different feeling to it, brought about by either its beauty or position in the house. This collection also shows the transition of the window designs, from the basic designs of the past to the latest artistic ones. The second to the last picture somewhat reminds me of how simple life is in the old days as compared to today.

  35. Those are beautiful windows! Each has its own unique feature that makes it different from the other. I love big windows but after I saw this, I might consider adding a small window somewhere in our house, probably in my room!

  36. Oh! I love small windows! Our house, especially my bedroom, has lots of small round windows! I don’t know what attracted to small windows. Anyway, whatever window you install In your house, small or big, round, square, or rectangle, what’s important is that you install it right and it must blend with your overall design.
