Placards & a quick garden update

First of al I want to thank you my readers for the nice comments on my garden post! I am so pleased with your interest in the evolution of our garden. So nice to read your thoughts about it! Thank you! I so appreciate it!

We really enjoyed spending this long weekend in our garden and Jan has created the steps I loved to have since a long time, he added more gravel on the paths and started to prepare our future vegetable garden. Here are some pictures I took yesterday.

Steps  Now we have to plant some more of the hedges on both sides of the steps.

And now over to the “placard” post.

A “placard” is a cupboard or wardrobe attached to the wall, or even built in in the masonry. I have always loved to see a placard in a room, especially the French provencal style placard.

New-made or antique placards, both can be beautiful and can be used in different rooms.

Love the way of displaying the china here in both sitting areas. Notice the led lighting inside!

This placard is placed in one of my favorite Belgian restaurants “Onder de Toren”. They serve very delicious food and it is a very charming and cosy place to be! (check their website : here).

A placard is not only used in dining or living rooms! It is a wonderful piece of furniture brought into the kitchen!

I found an interesting address in the south of France where you will discover gorgeous antique placards and all kinds of beautiful doors :

These (images of website Portes Anciennes) are a few of the range of antique placards they offer.

Shame on me, but I never really paid much attention to placards. I know! Bad, eh? But I felt in love with them through this post. I want to know more. Thank you for bringing a new inspiration for my day!

Wishing you a very blessed week!

  7. Your garden is truly a labor of love. I'm looking forward to seeing your finished vegetable garden! Sally makes an awesome tomato and basil sauce, so I make sure there fresh is basil and several tomato plants in ours...

In the midst of the gorgeous and inspirational placards (I find myself pressing my nose to the computer screen to take in the deatils!), I noticed two of my favorite chairs, the bergiere and the fauteuil.

  8. Greet,

I love the beautiful steps that Jan made. They are gorgeous and I hope your vegetable garden is plentiful this year. It is a lot of work to put in but always worth it. As a child we always had a garden and my parents and grandparents always canned the vegetables so we would have fresh garden vegetables in the cold winter months.

  17. How lovely that you can have a vegetable garden, Greet! I've tried twice but it is so much work, and I was the only one pulling out weeds and tending to it that I finally gave up. Maybe when I retire I'll have more time and will give it a go once again.

And all those placards! Hard to decide which one I like best!

    Have a great week, dear!

  18. Dearest Greet,
Your yard is so lovely! A vegetable garden is a wonderful addition to a property. I was just talking to my son on the phone about his, he put his in today and he was wondering how to plant potatoes. Years ago I gardened a lot, but not much anymore.
Those placards are all so beautiful, the first one you showed is my favorite, the brick and plaster mix is so charming, I love it.
    Hugs, Cindy

  20. Dearest Greet, I'm just dying right now. Really just dying. These are some of the most amazing images I've ever seen. Each one lovelier than the next. I have always loved this look, but stupid me didn't know it was called a placard. I just would have said recessed into the wall. Between your fabulous garden and these to die for placards (my new word now)this is one of my favorite posts. XOXO Mona

  27. Oh no I missed your post about your garden and now that I’ve seen your updated photos I’m going to have to go find that post. I like your word “placard” we just call ours a hutch or cupboard but I think I’ll use your word. I have to admit a placard is very useful for storing a lot of china I know I couldn’t live without our antique one. Wonderful post as always now I have got to go find your garden post!
