Beautiful wrought iron lantern.
Charming door bells.
A door stop.
Love the French word “Gratte-pieds” , placed at the front door and used to wipe or scrape your feet.
Cast-iron door mat.
And I love to find beautiful hardware ! I gives a door just that little bit more! Don’t you agree?

There used to be a daschund shaped mud scraper by the back door of my grandfather's summer house where we used to spend our holidays when we were kids. Then the house was sold, but it is one of the things I mostly remember and the image you posted brings back fond memories.
ReplyDeleteLove those solid doors and the accesories are charming. Thanks for such a lovely post, Greet!
Love it Greet! Doors are one of my favorites too, especially the hardware...it is like jewelry! Beautiful! Thank you. xx Caroline
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved into out new home I was so excited to hang the antique door knocker I found on ebay. You can imagine my shock and dismay when I drilled the holes only to find the door was hollow fiberglass! I still hung the doorknocker but I cringe when people actually use it. I am afraid it will fall on their feet!
ReplyDelete*Lament*. They just don't make things like they used to!
Hello Greet
ReplyDeleteLove doors and windows. So thank you for this wonderful post,
Hugs
Cecilia
Greet, these are all so beautiful ! Here we have some wonderful Doors too :) With the French and Italian influence in the buildings here, many buildings have doors just like those in your photos.
ReplyDeleteI have to take more photos, I will do a Door book ;0)
great idea for a new door!
ReplyDeletethanks!
happy eve,
Rosa

you favorite french door is mine as well.
ReplyDeletegreat post.
I love beautiful front doors too unfortuntely I don't happen to own one. We do have a wonderful antique bell at our door that we unearthed on our property the first year we lived here and we have a wonderful antique book scraper that's original to our home. Wonderful post and thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI so agree, Greet - like jewelry for the door. Beautiful images!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! I have fond memories of the front door of my grandmother's house, right down to the touch and feel of the hardware. It was a simple farmhouse in the country - the door was of sturdy straight forward construction with old farmhouse style hinges and hardware. It's screen door always used to open with a squeak and close with a bang!
ReplyDeleteFront doors make me think of first impressions. To this day, I will walk down a street, look at door and wonder about the people who live inside.
Hi Greet!
ReplyDeleteLoved all those doors I also like the Provence door, my favorite too!!!!!!These and French window and shopfronts are some of my favorite subjects to photograph...... Loved this! Maryanne xo
Absolutely ADORE this fabulous post. The door is such a wonderful design element - the first thing you see and sets the tone for what's to come! All beautiful examples. I have a charming little dachshund gratte-pied that sits by our front door, which I'm sorry to say does not resemble any of these spectacular examples.
ReplyDeleteTrès belles portes ensoleillées !
ReplyDeleteMerci Greet !
Céline.
Loved this post Greet. Loved those doors and the bells especially. So simply stated but such an impact when greeted.
ReplyDeleteYou must go over to my latest post. I own a pair of doors from Bruges which I bought when I traveled there! They are wonderful in my Great Room instead of a drapery treatment.
Thanks for more of such great inspiration Greet.

Greet, I am happy to see all these wonderful examples as this is my first visit to your blog. I am afraid that enough thought is not given to the front door of many new houses in the U.S. today. Often they are too small and completely without distinction.
ReplyDeleteGreet,
ReplyDeleteThese door and the hardware is beautiful. I love the Provence door especially and the first knocker.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Hello dear Greet,
ReplyDeleteI love the doors, so gorgeous! I especially like the "DE Provence" walnut door, it would look great on my house!;)
What an interesting post.
Hugs, Cindy
* It's TRUE what they say, Greet... "You only have ONE CHANCE to make a GOOD, FIRST IMPRESSION"... and these beautiful doors, etc. show it doesn't JUST apply to PEOPLE, but lots of OTHER things too!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVELY!!!!!!!!!
Warmest thanks,
Linda in AZ *

I totally agree with you about color´s complements. However the most difficult part form me is when we have to convince our clients to do not have afraid about certain colors. Regards from Madrid ^^
ReplyDeleteAccessories enhance the appeal of your French door. I remember that putting lamps next to your front door is very common in our neighborhood before. Now, I barely see houses with this kind of feature. It’s not out of style, but people prefer to use other items like knockers and floral decorations.
